The Heart of Dawu: South Link Service Area Featured on the Cover of Taiwan Architecture Magazine, November 2023 Issue

06/11/2023

We are honored to announce that The Heart of Dawu: South Link Service Area has been featured on the cover of the November 2023 issue of TA Taiwan Architecture Magazine, along with a special report!!

Project Objectives
The Taitung South Link Highway (Provincial Highway No. 9) is known as “the most beautiful highway in Taiwan,” offering expansive views as it winds between mountains and the sea. However, the South Link region of Taitung represents one of Taiwan’s most remote and disadvantaged areas. The lack of large-scale industries, comprehensive tourism networks, and supporting service facilities has resulted in most travelers making only brief stops of 20 to 30 minutes.

In response, this project leverages the realignment of Highway No. 9—which shortens travel time between Pingtung and Taitung—by designating Dawu Fishing Port as the core planning area. Here, a large-scale tourist service center, similar to a highway rest stop, will be established. Serving as the gateway to Taitung’s South Link region, it will create a new tourist attraction and provide travelers with a high-quality rest area, encouraging longer visits.

Showcasing the Best of Taitung
The Heart of Dawu: South Link Service Area embodies the concept of “regional revitalization” by highlighting local products and showcasing the unique culture of Taitung’s local farmers and indigenous communities.

The marketplace will feature agricultural and fishery specialties from the region, along with a Local Farmers’ Market Plaza for seasonal markets. In addition, an exhibition space will present the history, culture, and handicrafts of the Paiwan people. Together, these elements offer visitors an authentic cultural experience, connecting them to the local heritage while enabling them to enjoy and “take home” the best of Taitung.
