Chao Chien-Ming

Chao Chien-Ming is the principal architect of Chao Chien-Ming Architects & Planners. He holds a degree from Columbia University in the City of New York and has taught architecture at National Cheng Kung University and Cheng Shiu University. Currently, he is an adjunct assistant professor at the Department of Architecture, National University of Kaohsiung.

His works have been featured in prominent publications such as Architect Magazine, Taiwan Architecture, Architecture Journal, Archdaily, and other architectural platforms, both domestic and international. Over the years, Chao has earned around 85 awards, including the National Excellent Green Building Award, the National Excellence in Construction Award, the Landscape Architecture Awards, and the Golden Pin Design Award. Among his recent accolades are the Platinum Award in the 2023 London Design Awards in architecture and the 2024 iF Design Award, where two of his projects were honored.

In collaboration with various enterprises, he explores the possibilities of merging creative spatial designs with the advancement of traditional industries. His innovative approach has earned him the Outstanding Cultural and Creative Manager Award in the 11th Gaoping Regional Awards.

Chao sees design as a process of creating environmental value, using landscape as a design element to explore new forms of spatial construction. He believes that architectural creation must connect deeply with the land and everyday life to evoke emotional responses in users. Beyond his architectural achievements, Chao has ventured into stage design, with his work Building Poems, Chasing Poems featured as a prominent program at the Weiwuying Anniversary and Ten-Line Poem for NK being the only Taiwanese entry shortlisted in the WSD 2022 World Stage Design Exhibition. In 2023, he was also invited to exhibit at the Taiwan Pavilion at the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space.
